162 Paralympians marched into Rio’s Maracana Stadium for the 2016 Paralympics knowing that interest in the competition and their events would inspire millions of Canadians.
This morning at South Slope/BCSD, we were fortunate to have 2 Paralympians visit our school to share their amazing stories of courage, strength and athleticism. Curtis Thom, a wheelchair sports athlete and nephew of South Slope teacher, Theresa Sian, was one of the athletes. He represented Canada in the 800 metre, and 4 x 100 metre men’s relay events in Rio while Tessa Popoff, a Langley native, represented Canada as a sitting volleyball player.
